In its determination to promote sports development and encourage youths to be active, Bauchi state Government has expressed readiness to establish a modern sports academy.
The disclosure was made by the State Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Bashir Ya’u, while hosting members of the State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), on a courtesy visit.
Bashir Ya’u said, the Sports Academy is designed to nurture young athletes with sports techniques as well as providing quality Education to them.
According to him, the Academy would help to uplift sports from the grassroot level, by identifying young talents of various sporting events and make them profit across frontiers.
He appreciated members of Sports Writers Association for the visit, and assured to work together to uplift the sports sector in the state and the country at large.
Earlier, the Chairman SWAN, Bala Bawaji, said they were at the Ministry to congratulate the Commissioner for his appointment, and to strengthen the existing working relationship, partnership and togetherness.
Bala Bawaji who highlighted the role of SWAN as critical stakeholder in sports development, urged the Commissioner to do everything possible to upgrade sporting facilities in the state to encourage participation.
The Chairman also advised the Commissioner to use his youthful age and experiences in public affairs to bring the needed development amongst youths and sports in Bauchi state.
The SWAN Chairman, commended Governor Bala Muhammad for his commitment to developing the sports sector, particularly the financial support given to Wikki Tourists Football Club and State Sports Council to ensure participation in their respective games across the country.
