The Convener and Chief Servant, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger State, today inaugurated the State Executives of the Bago Actualization Group for New Niger at his Abuja residence.
The group, established to mobilise support for the second-term ambition of Farmer Governor, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, is committed to promoting continuity, unity and sustained development in Niger State.
The inauguration marks an important step in strengthening the group’s leadership structure and expanding its engagement with political stakeholders and citizens across the state in support of Governor Bago’s re-election ambition and his administration’s development agenda.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Aliyu charged the newly inaugurated executives to remain dedicated, disciplined and committed to the responsibilities entrusted to them. He urged them to work collectively towards achieving the group’s objectives, stressing the need for sincerity, understanding and a shared vision for the future of Niger State.
The former Governor emphasised that the interest and development of Niger State must remain paramount in the group’s activities. He called on political leaders and stakeholders to place the welfare of the people above personal interests and political differences, noting that the progress of the state requires the cooperation and commitment of all well-meaning citizens.
Dr. Aliyu also clarified that the Bago Actualization Group for New Niger is not restricted to members of any particular political party. He explained that its membership cuts across different political platforms, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and other parties.
According to him, the group’s broad-based membership reflects a common determination among its members to support Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s second-term ambition while promoting peace, unity and development across Niger State. He stressed that people from different political backgrounds can work together when they share a common objective for the progress of their state.
Dr. Aliyu further reaffirmed his support for Governor Bago’s second-term bid, explaining that his position is informed by the need to sustain the development of Niger State. He also stressed the importance of respecting established political understandings and zoning arrangements that have shaped the state’s political landscape from the period of the PDP administration to the present APC government.
He noted that respect for such arrangements could help promote fairness, mutual understanding and political stability among stakeholders. He therefore urged political actors to approach questions of leadership succession with responsibility and due consideration for the broader interest of the state.
In his remarks, Hon. Saidu Mohammed Abdullahi (SMA), Member of the House of Representatives representing Bida, Gbako and Katcha Federal Constituency, expressed appreciation to Dr. Aliyu for his continued concern for the affairs of Niger State.
Hon. Abdullahi described the former Governor as a true elder statesman who has consistently promoted unity, peaceful coexistence and progress. He commended Dr. Aliyu for placing the interest of Niger State above personal and partisan considerations, noting that the welfare of the people and the future of the state should always come first.
He further acknowledged Dr. Aliyu’s efforts in bringing people together across political divides, stressing that cooperation among leaders and stakeholders remains important to achieving sustainable development. He appreciated the former Governor for providing guidance and encouraging political actors to work together in the collective interest of Niger State.
