The Niger State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Kabir Abbas, has appealed to the people of Mashegu and Mariga Local Government Areas to be patient with the state government, assuring them that the road linking Igede to Mariga will soon be attended to.
The Commissioner gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of the ongoing 556-kilometre road project linking Mashegu and Mariga Local Government Areas of the State.
The Hon. Commissioner, was conducted alongside management staff of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development.
Hon. Kabir Abbas acknowledged the concerns and challenges faced by residents due to the poor condition of the Igede–Mariga road, stressing that the present administration is fully committed to improving road infrastructure across the state for the benefit of all citizens.
He explained that necessary arrangements were being finalized to ensure that work resumes on the road, adding that the project remains a top priority of the Niger State Government because of its economic and social importance to the affected communities.
During the inspection, the Commissioner directed the contractor handling the project to immediately return to site and recommence construction activities without further delay.
He emphasized that the government would not tolerate unnecessary delays under the guise of security challenges, noting that the timely completion of road infrastructure is critical to easing transportation, boosting commercial activities, and improving the living standards of the people.
Hon. Kabir Abbas also instructed the contractor to expand the Maguji Sohon Gari Bridge in Mashegu Local Government Area into a four-face structure in order to enhance safety, improve free water flow, and accommodate increased vehicular movement.
According to the Commissioner, the expansion of the bridge is necessary to prevent traffic congestion and flooding, especially during the rainy season, while also ensuring the long-term durability of the structure.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Niger State Government to delivering quality infrastructure projects and urged residents of Mashegu and Mariga Local Government Areas to continue supporting and cooperating with the government as efforts are intensified to address their infrastructural needs.
