CBN Intensify efforts to boost financial Inclusion using alternative payment channels

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has intensified efforts to promote financial inclusion by encouraging Nigerians to adopt alternative payment channels to support economic growth and national development.

Speaking at the opening of the CBN Fair in Gombe on Tuesday, CBN Governor, Dr Olayemi Cardoso reprented by , the Acting Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, said the event was organised to educate Nigerians about the Bank’s policies and provide an opportunity for direct interaction between the CBN and the public.

He said the fair, themed “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development,” was aimed at encouraging more Nigerians to adopt safe digital payment systems that can improve access to financial services and support economic growth.

According to him, the programme is part of the CBN’s nationwide engagement efforts to receive feedback from Nigerians and develop policies that improve their lives and livelihoods.

The Controller of the CBN Gombe Branch, Alhaji Yunusa Buba described the fair as an important platform for the Bank to explain its activities to the public while listening to their views and suggestions.

He encouraged participants to take part actively by asking questions and sharing their experiences with financial services.

Highlight of the event was the presentations delivered by six CBN departments, where participants gained insights into key areas including consumer protection and financial inclusion, financial markets, supervision of other financial institutions, monetary policy, payment systems supervision, and currency operations.

Also the presentations focused on protecting financial consumers, improving payment systems, increasing financial awareness, expanding access to banking services, and helping the public better understand monetary policy.
