Aftermath of the recent Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment which further deepened the leaderhip crisis of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has led his followers and supporters out of party.
The Governor made the formal and official announcement on Saturday after a widened stakeholders meeting held at the Government House, declaring that the entire structure has been collapsed into the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
Bala Mohammed cited the prolonged instability and unsuccessful efforts to restore unity within the PDP structure especially at the National level.
While announcing the defection, Bala Mohammed said that the decision followed extensive consultations and reflects a responsible step to provide Bauchi citizens with a viable political alternative amid what he described as an unusual and challenging situation.
The Governor emphasized that joining the Allied Peoples’ Movement at the state level aims to secure electoral victory while safeguarding the interests of his supporters and maintaining continuity in governance.
He also explained that members of the State Executive Council (SEC) have resigned, with plans underway for online membership registration across wards and local governments, describing the move as strategic rather than retreat.
While receiving the Governor, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed the him, highlighting the party’s commitment to integrity, sacrifice, and service as core principles guiding its operations nationwide.
Yusuf Dantalle noted that the party demonstrated grassroots strength in previous elections, winning councillorship seats, and described it as an egalitarian platform that respects members while fostering inclusive participation in governance.
Yusuf Dantalle assured that the APM has no hidden godfather, stressing that the party is guided strictly by its constitution and the will of the people.
He also commended the Governor’s leadership style, particularly his inclusive approach to governance and democratic values.
The announcement was followed by chants of “APM, Nigeria First,” as supporters expressed approval of the defection.
