By: Adelowo Oladipo
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, mourns the passing of Comrade Alfred Odifa, a former Secretary of the Council and a highly respected journalist, administrator and unionist who died in the early hours of today after a brief illness.
Comrade Odifa was a very knowledgeable and versatile professional who was deeply conversant with the affairs of the Union.
This is contained in a statement issued by both the Chairman and Secretary of the Lagos State Council of the NUJ, Comrades Adeleye Ajayi and Tunde Olalere and made available to Journalists on Thursday
The statement noted that during his years of service to the NUJ, he demonstrated commitment, wisdom and an uncommon understanding of union administration.
His contributions to the growth and development of the Council will remain fondly remembered.
Until his passing, Comrade Odifa served as Deputy Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, where he contributed meaningfully to the public information and communication sector of the state.
His professionalism, experience and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and associates.
The NUJ Lagos State Council extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, his colleagues, friends and loved ones.
We pray that God grants the family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
While his passing has left a painful big vacuum, we take solace in the legacy of service, knowledge and commitment he left behind.
His memory will continue to live on among those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
The Union however prayed that may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
Late Alfred Odiffa
