Christian men have been urged to shun sinful lifestyles, embrace God’s unmerited grace, and remain committed to living according to his word in order to become godly leaders in their homes, churches, and society.
Elder Victor Idoma Egba of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), Bauchi Mission Parish stated this during the 2026 Fathers’ Week celebration of the Men Christian Association (MCA), themed “Men of Extravagant Grace,” taken from Gospel of John 1:16.
Speaking on the significance of the theme, Elder Egba explained that God’s extravagant grace is His abundant and undeserved favor bestowed upon everyone who believes in Jesus Christ. He stressed that the grace of God is not a license to continue in sin but a divine empowerment that enables believers to overcome temptation and live lives that are pleasing to God.
According to him, men who have received God’s grace are expected to reflect it through compassion, humility, forgiveness, integrity, love, and selfless service to humanity. He said Christian fathers, in particular, must set worthy examples for their families by demonstrating godly character and remaining steadfast in their faith.
Elder Egba noted that experiencing God’s unmerited favor requires genuine repentance, a sincere commitment to prayer, and complete obedience to God’s commandments.
“Extravagant grace empowers men to overcome sin, but that can only happen when believers genuinely repent, pray consistently, and turn away from sinful ways,” he said.
The church elder also challenged Christian men to become more actively involved in church programmes and activities, lamenting that many often cite work commitments as reasons for their absence from worship and fellowship.
He reminded them that their jobs and businesses are blessings from God and should never take the place of their relationship with Him.
“Men must create time to attend church activities and stop blaming work for their absence. God is the one who provides the enabling environment for them to work, and they must also make time to worship and serve Him faithfully,” he said.
Elder Egba further reminded members of the Men Christian Association of the pledge they voluntarily made, which commits them to refrain from sinful acts, obey God’s will, maintain a consistent prayer life, study the Scriptures, and publicly confess Jesus Christ as Lord.
He urged the men to remain faithful to those commitments, describing them as essential to spiritual growth and effective Christian leadership.
The elder further encouraged fathers to take greater responsibility for the spiritual development of their families by leading family devotions, teaching biblical values to their children, and creating homes founded on love, discipline, righteousness, and the fear of God.
The Men Christian Association of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria is dedicated to promoting Christian fellowship, Bible study, evangelism, and the practice of Christian virtues among its members, while encouraging them to provide spiritual, moral, and financial support for the growth and mission of the church.
During the week the men engaged themselves in a solemn assembly, Bible study, visitation and outdoor evangelism.
