Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Inga, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication to improve support for disaster victims, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
In a statement made available to Newsmen and signed by the Director Media and Strategy of the Ministry, Wushishi Habibu stated that Dr. Inga made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Commissioner emphasized the need for closer cooperation between the two ministries, particularly in the areas of skills acquisition programmes, capacity building for staff, humanitarian interventions and the provision of relief materials to vulnerable communities across Niger State.
He appealed to the Federal Ministry to fully engage the state ministry in its various programmes and initiatives, noting that such collaboration would help alleviate the suffering of affected persons and contribute significantly to poverty reduction in the state.
According to him, enhanced partnership and coordination between both levels of government would ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need while improving the effectiveness of intervention programmes.
Responding, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Bernard Doro, commended the commissioner for the visit and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in achieving the objectives of government policies and programmes.
He noted that effective engagement between federal and state institutions promotes data sharing, exchange of experiences and improved implementation of humanitarian initiatives.
The Minister assured the Niger State Government of the Federal Ministry’s continued support, describing the state as strategically important to Nigeria’s economic development.
“Niger State occupies a unique position and remains very important to the nation’s economy. We will continue to support efforts aimed at improving the welfare of its people,” he said.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Director-General of the Niger State Internally Displaced Persons Agency, Hon. Danjuma Nalango; the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs to the Governor, Abubakar Garafini; and senior officials of the ministry.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government and Niger State in addressing humanitarian challenges, supporting vulnerable populations and implementing sustainable poverty alleviation programmes
