Monday, 17th August 2026 has been declared as a public holiday by the Bauchi State Government to enable effective and encouraging participation in the Local Government Elections.
The approval of the work-free day was given by the State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and it is effective across the State to enable Civil Servants and other Public Servants participate in the discharge of their civic responsibilities.
Also affected by the work-free day are workers at the Local Government, State and Federal levels working in the State, as well as employees in the banking sector, to participate fully in
the forthcoming Local Councils Election.
The decision followed the announcement by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral
Commission (BASIEC) fixing Monday, 17th August, 2026, for the conduct of Elections into the Local Government Councils across the State.
The declaration is intended to provide eligible citizens the opportunity to exercise
their constitutional right to vote and contribute to the democratic process at the grassroots level without disruption arising from official duties.
However, workers engaged in essential Services are exempted as the State Government therefore called on all citizens and residents of the State to
come out peacefully and exercise their franchise in accordance with the law.
All eligible voters are urged to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after
the elections.
The State Government assured citizens that all relevant authorities will work to ensure
a peaceful and orderly electoral environment and urges everyone to cooperate with security agencies and electoral officials in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The State Government wished all citizens a peaceful, and successful Local Government Councils Election, as contained in a statement signed by Mukhtar M. Gidado, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
