Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Saturday, presided over the 8th meeting of the Joint Project Development Council, in keeping with his administration’s sustained commitment to strategic planning, coordinated development and efficient delivery of projects across the state.
The meeting, which was the first to be held since the establishment of 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) brought the new administrative structures into the State’s development planning and project delivery framework.
The Director-General of the Joint Project Development and Essential Services Agency (JPDESA), Bldr. Mahmoud Yusuf, who disclosed the outcome of the meeting, said the Council approved several projects and additional works designed to address emerging infrastructure needs across the state.
One of the major decisions taken at the meeting, according to the Director-General, was the approval for the upgrade of the palace of the Emir of Gombe, Alh. (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III.
He explained that the intervention is in line with Inuwa Yahaya- led administration’s commitment to preserving important traditional institutions and providing them with facilities befitting their status, while also ensuring that such institutions continue to play their role in promoting peace, unity and development across the state.
Mahmoud Yusuf said the upgrade would enhance the appearance, functionality and overall environment of the palace.
He noted that the decision reflected Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s recognition of the role played by traditional rulers in maintaining peace, strengthening community engagement and supporting government policies and development programmes.
The Council also approved additional works at the newly constructed LCDAs across the state to ensure their smooth and effective takeoff.
The Director-General explained that while the physical structures for the new Councils had been provided, the government considered it necessary to complement the facilities with essential infrastructure and services that would enable the LCDAs to commence operations without unnecessary delays.
Among the additional facilities approved are solar power systems, solar-powered boreholes and surveillance systems, alongside other essential installations required to make the newly constructed Council facilities more functional, secure and conducive for both workers and members of the public.
According to him, the provision of solar power systems is particularly important in ensuring reliable electricity supply to the LCDAs, while solar-powered boreholes would provide sustainable access to water for administrative operations and other basic needs.
He added that the installation of surveillance systems would strengthen security around the Council facilities, protect public assets and create a safer environment for staff and residents who would access the various government services to be provided at the new councils.
He said the Council meeting also provided an opportunity to review ongoing projects and consider interventions required to sustain the pace of development across the State, as contained in a statement signed by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe.
