The Niger State Ministry of Health has formally adopted a Four-Year Digital Health Implementation Roadmap and approved its Year-One Workplan as part of efforts to strengthen and modernise healthcare delivery through digital technology across the State.
The development followed a one-day stakeholders’ engagement convened by the Ministry of Health, bringing together health professionals and agencies under the Ministry to validate and endorse the framework for the digitization of health service delivery in Niger State.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Jibrin Usman Kodo and made available to Journalists over the weekend in Minna.
In his welcome address, the Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Pharmacist Ilya Laban, described the stakeholders’ engagement as a blueprint for harnessing digital technologies to strengthen the health system and promote data-driven decision-making.
He urged participants to make meaningful contributions towards advancing the modernisation of the health sector in the State.
The engagement focused on three key areas:
Official adoption of the Four-Year Niger State Digital Health Implementation Roadmap, which sets the strategic direction for health information systems, interoperability and health informatics across the State.
Endorsement of the Year-One Workplan, outlining priority activities, implementation timelines, budget lines and responsible agencies for the first 12 months.
Formation of operational subcommittees to coordinate implementation and resource mobilisation.
Although the Four-Year Digital Health Implementation Roadmap has been adopted by the stakeholders, it is awaiting the signature of the Honourable Commissioner for Health before becoming an officially authorised reference document.
The Year-One Workplan prioritises immediate actions, including the upgrading of the State Health Management Information System (HMIS) and the integration of facility-level digital health platforms.
Four subcommittees
were also constituted to drive the operationalisation of the roadmap. They are:
Technical and Systems Integration Subcommittee.
Governance, Policy and Security Subcommittee,Resource Mobilisation, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Financial Management Subcommittee.
Others are Capacity Building and Change Management Subcommittee,the subcommittees have already commenced work on the preparation of their Annual Operational Plans (AOPs), aligned with the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) and the Digital Health Implementation Roadmap.
Stakeholders and health professionals expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen epidemiological surveillance, improve maternal and child health outcomes, enhance health information management and increase the efficiency of healthcare service delivery across Niger State.
Meanwhile,the one-day engagement featured plenary presentations and technical breakout sessions, during which participants reviewed, refined and endorsed the final roadmap and Year-One implementation schedule.
