The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Niger State in the 2027 election, Alhaji Mohammed Mamman Nami has said that his ambition is driven by a desire to provide people-centred leadership and accelerate the socio-economic development of the state.
Nami, a former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has consistently anchored his proposed administration on the philosophy of “People First, Progress Always,” with emphasis on translating government policies into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
He has identified education, healthcare, security, agriculture, job creation, infrastructure and economic empowerment as key areas requiring sustained attention to unlock Niger’s considerable human and natural resources.
Nami says his administration, if elected, would create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, industries to grow and young people, women, farmers and entrepreneurs to develop sustainable livelihoods rather than relying solely on government employment.
On education, the PDP candidate has proposed strengthening basic and secondary education while expanding access to technical, vocational and tertiary training, stressing that children and young people should be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required to compete in a changing economy.
He has also identified healthcare as a major component of his development vision, with emphasis on strengthening primary healthcare, maternal and child health services and access to medical care, particularly for residents of rural communities.
Nami has further stressed that security remains fundamental to development, noting that farmers must be able to access their farms without fear, children should attend schools safely and businesses must operate in a peaceful environment.
He has called for stronger collaboration among government, security agencies, traditional institutions and communities.
On infrastructure and economic development, Nami has highlighted roads, electricity, water supply, drainage and transportation as critical to connecting communities, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce and reducing post-harvest losses.
The PDP Gubernatorial candidate has also pledged to promote responsive and accountable governance through regular engagement with citizens and stakeholders, saying the success of any administration should ultimately be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of the people.
His emergence as the PDP candidate followed the decision of other aspirants to step aside and support his candidacy, according to the state PDP leadership.
