The Conference of Professionals in the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has asked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop playing to the gallery and sack the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, over alleged corruption, speculated procurement of court pronouncements, and other acts undermining democracy in Nigeria, if indeed he is not its member.
The CP-PDP also lampoons Minister Nyesom Wike’s situation as a pathetic story of a “political vagabond” who has been disgraced by the APC—the same ignoble and despicable interests he served by viciously working to derail the PDP and manipulate the institutions of democracy and governance to the detriment and injury of millions of Nigerians; the reason he was expelled from the PDP
CP-PDP stressed however that, Nigerians are not deceived by APC’s attempt to create the impression that Minister Wike is not an APC member, especially as he is a top official in its government.
The CP-PDP stated that, “He is actively taking part in the formulation and implementation of APC’s anti-people policies, which have brought so much anguish to Nigerians, while campaigning for APC candidates and allegedly obtaining judicial pronouncements in favor of the party.”
According to CP-PDP, “The reason Chief Wike is in the APC administration is that he is doing the bidding of the APC to subjugate and suppress Nigerians with hardship.”
It added that, “As a member of the Tinubu-led APC Government, Chief Wike is involved in the administration’s increase of fuel and electricity costs, the floating of the Naira, insensitivity to widespread insecurity, massive corruption, general disregard for the wellbeing of Nigerians, and the attempt to impose a cruel new tax law.”
“The APC cannot, therefore, attempt to distance itself from the actions of the “drowning Minister” at this time while also failing to relieve him of his office or order an open investigation into the plethora of allegations against him. Or is the APC struggling to conceal the malodorous atrocities of its other top members reported to be in bed with the Minister?”
The Conference demands that the APC and Wike come clean on the declaration made by the minister at a recent outing in Oyigbo, Rivers State, that the APC is enjoying “work” that was done in its favor in Osun State.
“Was Chief Wike referring to the recent court judgment which favored the APC against the Osun State Government? It asked.
It added that,”This is especially concerning given speculations in the public domain that some judges are being compromised by Wike to give spurious judgments in favor of APC interests to destabilize the PDP.”
CP-PDP stated that, “A specific reference is the overreaching High Court judgments seeking to stop the PDP National Convention, contrary to the extant judgment of the Supreme Court, which affirmed that party congresses and conventions are internal matters over which no court has jurisdiction.”
Furthermore, the CP-PDP demands that the APC allow for an open investigation into the messy allegations of treasury looting, opaque awards, and the inflation of contracts.
This includes the N39 billion claimed to have been spent on the renovation of the International Conference Center (ICC), the pillaging of collected levies, and non-compliance with public spending due process in the FCT over the last two years—especially since the politically motivated removal of the FCT from the monitoring mechanisms of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
The CP-PDP declared that, “As long as Chief Wike is protected by the APC government, the APC remains culpable and responsible for his actions and should stop seeking public sympathy for their self-inflicted woe.”
“After all, he who brings a bull, especially one under the influence, into a china shop should not expect a courteous company. Perhaps this is just the beginning,” It concluded as contained in a statement signed by Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, Protem National Coordinator, CP-PDP.
