The Niger State Government has reviewed its Strategic Plan for the healthcare sector as part of efforts to strengthen service delivery and improve health outcomes across the State.
The review meeting, held on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, at the Deputy Governor’s Office,Government House Minna, was chaired by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, who also serves as Chairman of the State Healthcare System.
The meeting brought together the Commissioner for Health, in conjunction with the Permanent Secretaries, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Governor said the strategic review was aimed at realigning the healthcare policies of the State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago-led administration to ensure more effective and efficient service delivery to the people of Niger State,noting that the healthcare sector remains a critical pillar of the administration’s development agenda.
Comrade Yakubu Garba observed that the State’s healthcare system comprises several components that directly impact grassroots communities, stressing that the review would help to improve, strengthen, and enhance existing healthcare structures.
He added that the State Government’s priority for 2026 includes expanding funding for basic healthcare services, improving service delivery, and accelerating healthcare infrastructure development across the State.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, commended the State Government’s sustained commitment to healthcare development under the Farmer Governor’s New Niger Agenda.
He stated that periodic review of the sector’s strategic plan is necessary to reposition the healthcare system into a more viable, responsive, and efficient platform.
Dr. Bagana further noted that the healthcare system in Niger State has witnessed significant improvements in recent years to meet the demands of the growing population.
He highlighted the upgrading of selected secondary and tertiary health facilities, as well as the standardisation of primary healthcare services, as positive steps towards achieving improved health outcomes for the people of the State.
