The Federal Government has completed and commissioned two emergency repair of collapsed concrete lined drain/3-cell pipe culverts at Konkiyel and Sauke villages along the Darazo – Kari road in Darazo LGA of Bauchi State.
The projects were commissioned on Saturday by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sai’d on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Works.
The Konkiyel project, a 0.06km, cost the sum of N371m and was completed within three months, it was necessitated by the collapse of existing structure due to heavy downpour experienced during the peak of rainy season as well as inadequate drainage structures to accommodate excess flood in the area.
In order to forestall future reoccurrance and to protect the embarkment from erosion, the collapsed lined drain/culvert has been reconstructed.
The Sauke village project, a 2-cell pipe culvert and concrete lined drain cost the sum of N331m and was completed within three months.
The existing 2-cell pipe culvert collapsed completely and the
whole community submerged in a flooded area due to heavy down pour experienced during the peak of rainy season.

The Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi, had explained that the projects were part of the ones spread across the country inherited by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.
According to him, the administration decided to continue and complete the projects because of the significance to livelihood of the benefitting communities.
Also speaking, the State Controller, Federal Ministry of Works, Engr Bashir Adamu, explained that the major concern of the Federal Government is errosion control in the communities considering the devastating effect of flooding.
He commended the contractors for executing the projects according to the specifications and delivering on time urging the benefitting communities to ensure that the projects were well maintained and not dump refuse inside.
The NUJ Chairman described the projects as very essential to the daily existence of the benefiting cmuminities considering the devastating effect of flooding during the rainy season.
He commended the Federal Government for the intervemtions urging the communities to maintain the facilities for their own good.
The Village Head of Sauke, Zakari Ya’u, commemded the Federal Government for the project which he said had constituted a nightmare for them especially during the rainy season causing avoidable accidents.
He added that with the project completed,, the deep gully erosion that was gradually eating the area has now been put in check as water is freely floating.
Other residents of the villages expressed happiness over the completion and commissioning of the projects saying they now know that there is a government in power.
