Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter, have been trained on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern newsroom operations for effectiveness.
The selected Women Journalists have on Friday, successfully concluded the two-day capacity-building programme which also focused on leadership skills and Management.
The training, held in Kano, was organised in partnership with the Bauchi State Government and the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD).
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Bauchi State Chapter, Mrs. Rasheeda Yusuf, stated that the initiative was designed to enhance the professional competencies of journalists and equip them with the skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital media environment.
She explained that 20 female Journalists drawn for the various media organizations operating in the State benefitted from the engagement.
Rasheeda Yusuf noted that the integration of Artificial Intelligence into newsroom processes has become indispensable for improving efficiency and adopting innovative approaches to news gathering, production, and dissemination.
According to her, “The adoption of AI in newsroom operations is essential for ensuring that journalists leverage modern technologies in the discharge of their responsibilities. ”
“It is important for women journalists to remain informed about emerging AI tools and effectively incorporate them into their daily content creation processes,” she said.
Rasheed Yusuf further emphasised NAWOJ’s commitment to continuous professional development through regular training and retraining programmes aimed at strengthening members’ capacities and enhancing the quality of journalism practice.
She also commended the Bauchi State Government for its sustained commitment to initiatives that promote the welfare and empowerment of women and children across the state.
The Chairperson expressed appreciation for the government’s continued support for NAWOJ activities, noting that such collaboration contributes significantly to advancing professionalism and excellence within the media sector.
Earlier, a representative of CITAD, Alhaji Garba Isa, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to building citizens’ capacity in information and communication technology in line with global best practices.
He highlighted the media’s critical role within the technology ecosystem and underscored the growing importance of AI-driven solutions in enhancing newsroom operations and productivity.
During the training sessions, participants received practical instruction on the use of AI-powered tools for video production, audio editing, image generation, fact-checking, and other essential digital journalism functions.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kano State Chapter, Mrs Bahijja Malam-Kabara, commended the organisers and partners for the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward improving the productivity, innovation, and professionalism of female Journalists.
