Niger CP Receives Law Reform Commission, Pledges  Feedback, Support, Synergy TO Aid  Review, Reforms

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Police Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman , received the Niger State Law Reform Commission led by the Chairman, Barr. Mohammed Abdulkadir on a courtesy/familiarization visit, at the State Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura Minna today 3rd February, 2026.
The Chairman, in his remarks appreciated the Commissioner of Police for honouring and receiving them on a courtesy visit, stating that he became more comfortable on discovery that their host is also a Lawyer par excellence and a colleague in the Temple of Justice.
He added that the Commission was established in 2003 with the primary responsibility of reviewing State’s laws, advising the government on legislation and occasionally, drafting laws to aid in smooth conduct of judicial processes.
 The Chairman added that he was a pioneer member of the Commission as a draftsman which enabled him to appreciate the vital role of stakeholders such as the Police inputs in enacting laws aimed at improving administration of justice in the State.
He also stated that the Powers of the Police to arrests, investigate and prosecute were given priority whilst drafting the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of the State, but sometimes certain laws fail due to lack of care given to the administration of such laws.
 He added that crime prevention is a collective responsibility beginning from homes to streets, towns, the State and the Federation at large and as such emphasized the importance of crime prevention by parents right from their homes, so that children grow to become law abiding citizens.
The Chairman further stated that the visit was also aimed at soliciting the Police Command’s support as its input and expertise are critical in reviewing existing laws to enhance smooth administration of criminal justice in the State.
The Commissioner of Police welcomed the Chairman and his team to the Command whilst expressing his delight and excitement to receive them.
He added that the Police is a law enforcement agency saddled with the responsibility of enforcing laws enacted by the legislature as a result of the its feedback regarding crime.
The Police therefore remain key stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice in the State.
He also stated that crime detection and prevention which are primary duties of the Police cannot be effectively achieved without the support and cooperation of the public.
 Therefore, the importance of the Law Reform Commission in dispensation of criminal justice cannot be overemphasized since their expertise, guidance and knowledge of the law will enable the Police do its job effectively.
He promised to render the required assistance and necessary input gained from practical experiences on the field to aid in the review process whilst assuring the commission of improved synergy and collaboration to achieve the desired goal of ensuring that residents of the State conduct their businesses in a conducive atmosphere and live without fear.
He appreciated the Chairman once again for the visit and wished them a safe trip back to their office.
