The North East Zone of the Nigeria Prays, on Sunday, organised a One-day National Prayer Rally in Bauchi with the theme: “Awake, Awake Ó Army of the Lord” with the text taken from Isaiah 51:9.
The rally which was held at the COCIN Church, Kagadama, Yelwa, brought together Christians from the Six States of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe as well as leaders of Nigeria Prays led by former Military Head of State, Elder Statesman, General Dr. Yakubu Gowon, (Rtd) who was represented at the meeting.
Speaking at the prayer rally, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed commended Yakubu Gowon for taking the pains, in the last 30 years, to traverse the country leading the prayer sessions for peace and unity of Nigeria.
Bala Mohammed who was represented by a high powered Government delegation led by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Christian Affairs, Pastor (Dr), Luka Zakka Magaji, described Yakubu Gowon as, “Our Father, a mentor, a gospel power, the one God has used to keep Nigerian as one. , the former Head of State, and the founder of the vision, Nigeria Prays.”

The Governor appreciated the Christian community for the mass turning out to pray for the nation, Nigeria, to pray for the North-East subregion and to pray for Bauchi State in particular.
Bala Mohammed said that he is consciously aware that his government emerged as a result of prayer, adding that, “And what we’re witnessing in Bauchi state today is also anchored by prayer because the Bible says when the righteous rule, the people rejoice.”
According to him, “2019, we prayed for good leadership in Bauchi State. We prayed for a leadership that will have the fear of God. Today we are all witnesses to that, and we can attest to that, and we can applaud to that, and we can say loudly, without fear or favour or contradiction, that our administration, as it was said, is number one.”
And he also said that the prayer came timely, because, “if you are not aware, timetable for the 2027 general elections is out. Let us to continue praying, that God will establish righteous leaders as we embark on another round of elections.”
“And our election, according to the INEC pattern, is starting either from March or April primaries will commence on political parties and activities will commence and perhaps on consensus. We are hoping election may hold at the end of the year or very early of 2027. Therefore, this gathering is the voice of expressing,”he added.
Bala Mohammed stressed that, “We cannot get Nigeria back until we get righteous leaders at all levels. Today, we are able to overtake even those that were ahead of us. Therefore, we ask you to let you people to continue praying that, as God has the power, our God is the unshakable, Our God can move the unmovable.”
He also stated that,”Our God can remove the unremovable. And we trust God. We are not praying against anybody. We are praying that God will show you as our ally and help our Nigeria. We are praying that God will show us that we are united. We are praying that God will show us that we are united.
“Because the prayer is timely. Let’s continue our prayer that God will expose those wicked ones that are using their leadership to oppress us, in the various sectors of Nigeria, not only politicians. Therefore, it is our responsibility to pray,” he stressed.
The Governor added,”As we embark on the calendar of elections, let God give us true leaders, quality leaders, people that are upright, have good heart, and people that will live a life of service, and people that will bring true change.”
Also speaking in his capacity as the Governor’s Political Aide, Zakka Luka Magaji stressed that, no one is to be compared with our amiable Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. A man that delivered his mandate without any discrimination, and a man that ruled with Godly fear, a man of true replica of righteousness, a man that built Churches, a man that built Mosques, and a man that gave us a befitting CAN center that can compete with all other CAN centers in the country that we have.”
He added,”And a man that has built projects, all the Christian communities that were neglected since the creation and the institution of Bauchi State from 1976. Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, was able to visit those areas to do some such gigantic projects.”
Speaking earlier, National Secretary, Nigeria Prays, Evan Austin R. Kemie, stressed that the project was aimed at keeping Nigeria as a united entity through prayers and seeking divine intervention in all situations across the country.
He added that particularly in the North East subregion that has been ravaged by insurgency leading to deaths and destruction of Churches thereby making existence difficult.
According to him, “It has been divine intervention through prayers that has kept the country together as one entity and we will continue to pray and seek the face of in everything.”
In his remarks, Bauchi State Coordinator of Nigeria Prays, Rev Samaila Boro, commended the Christian Community for coming out in large numbers for the programme stressing that it was a demonstration of commitment to the cause of God.
The one day prayer meeting featured sessions of prayers for Nigeria, North-East and Bauchi State as well as for the leadership of the country at levels not leaving out the Church.
Various Choir groups also sang songs of praises, thanksgiving and adoration to God.
