The Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry of Information and Communication, on Thursday, 26th February, 2026, convened a one-day interactive session on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as part of efforts to deepen democratic participation and strengthen the electoral process in the state.
Declaring the session open, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Communication described the engagement as timely and strategic, noting that voter registration remains the bedrock of credible, inclusive, and participatory democracy. He stressed that without an active and informed electorate, democratic governance cannot thrive.
The Commissioner who was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alh. Ibrahim Gambaki emphasized that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise provides eligible citizens with the opportunity to register, update, or transfer their voter details in line with constitutional provisions. He called on political parties, the media, and other stakeholders to support public enlightenment and encourage lawful participation in the process across all local government areas of the state.
According to Ibrahim Gambaki, the collaboration between the Ministry, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and political parties under the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) is critical to building public trust, combating misinformation, and ensuring peaceful electoral activities.
In her presentation, the INEC representative, Barrister Halitta Raji provided an in-depth overview of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, outlining eligibility criteria, registration procedures, locations, and timelines. She reiterated INEC’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and fairness, while urging political parties and the media to partner with the Commission in sensitizing citizens on the importance of voter registration ahead of future elections.
Barrister Halitta further emphasized that CVR is a continuous process designed to accommodate new voters and ensure the integrity of the voters’ register, adding that increased participation would translate into more credible elections.
In his welcome address the Managing Director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), Alh. Umar Shira, described the interactive session as a vital platform for dialogue, enlightenment, and stakeholder engagement. He noted that the session had brought together critical actors in the electoral process to strengthen collective understanding of voter registration and democratic participation.
Alh.Shira reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Information and Communication to sustained civic awareness campaigns, stressing that accurate and timely information remains key to encouraging citizens’ participation in democratic processes.
Similarly, in his vote of thanks, the Chairman of IPAC Bauchi state Chapter Comrade Auwal Isa appreciated the Bauchi State Government and INEC for the engagement, assuring that political parties would continue to mobilize their members and supporters to participate peacefully and responsibly in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
The Highlight of the events featured robust discussions, questions, and contributions from participants, with a shared resolve to work collectively towards increasing voter registration, promoting peaceful participation, and ensuring credible elections in Bauchi State.
