The Bauchi State House of Assembly (BAHA) Committee on Agriculture has commenced an oversight exercise to monitor the distribution of subsidised farm inputs across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Dayyibu Muhammad, who represents Ganjuwa East Constituency, disclosed this while briefing news in Bauchi.
Muhammad said the committee had inspected fertiliser distribution centres in Toro, Tafawa Balewa and Dass LGAs, as well as the headquarters of the Bauchi State Agricultural Supply Company (BASAC), to assess the distribution process.
He said the oversight was aimed at ensuring transparency in the distribution of farm inputs and improving farmers’ access to agricultural support services, including extension services.
The lawmaker commended the State Ministry of Agriculture and the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) for strengthening agricultural extension services, particularly in flood-prone communities.
According to him, extension workers are educating farmers on suitable crop varieties and appropriate planting periods to minimise the effects of flooding and improve productivity.
He added that the recent recruitment of additional extension officers, approved by the state government, would further strengthen support for farmers across the state.
“The committee is satisfied with the distribution process. The fertiliser is being sold to farmers at the approved subsidised price of ₦20,500 per bag,” he said.
He said the subsidised fertiliser programme followed the official launch of the 2026 farming season by Gov. Bala Mohammed as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in the state.
He added that farmers in all the 20 LGAs were accessing the fertiliser through designated sales outlets established by the government.
The lawmaker also disclosed that the committee observed that each local government had about five operational tractors to support farming activities during the current farming season.
He expressed confidence that the combined efforts of the state government, agricultural agencies and the legislature would result in increased agricultural output and bumper harvests across Bauchi State.
He urged farmers to comply with professional advice from agricultural extension officers by adopting modern farming techniques and mechanised practices to improve yields.
