The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, through the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), has confirmed Dr. Umar Abdullahi as the substantive Provost of the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa (FCHDK), Gombe State.
This is contained in a statement signed by the College Public Relations Officer, Aishatu Samaila, and made available to news men in Gombe
The release stated that confirmation follows his successful service as Acting Provost, a role he assumed on October 12, 2025, after the tenure of the former Provost, Dr. Babaworo Mahmoud, ended.
According to the statement, his appointment was made after he met all required conditions for the position.
Dr. Abdullahi is an experienced Agronomist and Agroecology expert with a strong background in agricultural research, training, administration, and project management.
He has worked with national and international organisations.
He holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, and has also completed several professional trainings in data management, statistical software, seed production, and monitoring and evaluation.
He is also active in academic publishing, serving as publisher and editor of two scientific journals, and has reviewed many research papers and environmental impact reports.
Before becoming a Principal Lecturer at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, he worked as Assistant Director at the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.
He has over ten years of experience in both public and private sectors.
The Gombe State Government, along with the management, staff, and students of the college, congratulated him on his confirmation and expressed confidence that his leadership will improve academic standards, research, innovation, staff development, and overall institutional growth.
