The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has commenced a comprehensive resource inspection, full accreditation and re-accreditation exercise at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin-Kowa, Gombe State.
The exercise covers several academic programmes presented by the institution for accreditation and resource inspection, as part of efforts to strengthen the quality of technical education and expand access to skilled manpower.
The inspection team commended the College management for significant improvements and upgrades recorded across various areas of the institution. However, it identified some minor requirements that still need to be addressed to bring the programmes up to the required standard.
The NBTE team was led by Mr. Ayo Aroge, Director of the Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department, under the supervision of the Executive Secretary of the Board, Prof. Idris Bugaje.
Speaking at the commencement of the exercise, Aroge expressed confidence in the College’s preparedness and explained that resource persons had been assigned to the relevant departments to facilitate an efficient and comprehensive inspection.
He called for the cooperation of the College’s departments and units, noting that the NBTE team had previously visited the institution and was familiar with its programmes and operations.
In his welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. Umar Abdullahi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to meeting NBTE standards. He said the management had made concerted efforts to provide the required facilities, equipment and qualified manpower in line with the Board’s guidelines.
The Provost disclosed that the College had undertaken the improvements largely through its internal allocation, despite not currently benefiting from TETFUND intervention.
Responding to the observations, Dr. Umar thanked the NBTE delegation for its professionalism and thoroughness. He assured the team that the College would promptly address the outstanding requirements to ensure students receive quality and globally competitive education.
The Provost also appreciated the NBTE team for its cooperation with College staff, which he said contributed to the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Timelypost reports that the accreditation exercise is expected to enhance the College’s academic standing, increase student enrolment and strengthen its capacity to produce skilled manpower for Nigeria’s agricultural and technical sectors.
The programmes presented for full accreditation are HND Agribusiness Management, HND Fisheries Technology, HND Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology Option), HND Cooperative Economics and Management, ND Social Development, ND Computer Science, and ND Library and Information Science.
The College also presented HND Agricultural and Extension Management and HND Pest Management Technology for re-accreditation, while HND Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology Option), HND Cyber Security and Data Protection, and HND Social Development were presented for resource inspection.
