Lapai Power  Outage : Residents  Demand Accountability  From Chairman, Ward Councillors 

Barely two months after a reported transformer failure, affected  communities want to know what local representatives have done to facilitate restoration

Residents of parts of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State are demanding accountability from the Local Government Chairman and elected ward councillors over a prolonged electricity outage that has reportedly lasted nearly two months.

The outage followed the reported failure of a transformer serving some affected communities, including areas around the Emir’s Palace.

Residents say the situation has disrupted businesses and affected other activities that depend on electricity.

A replacement transformer has  been supplied, but it has not yet been put into operation.

Information gathered by Lapai TV indicates that technical assessment and administrative procedures may be required before the replacement transformer can be properly installed and commissioned.

 However, the specific reason for the delay has not been independently established.

The development has raised questions about the intervention of the Lapai Local Government Council, particularly the role of the Chairman and councillors representing the affected wards.

As elected representatives, the ward councillors are expected to communicate the concerns of their constituents to the appropriate authorities.

 Residents are therefore seeking answers on whether formal representations have been made to the relevant electricity authority and what actions have been taken since the outage began.
