Niger High Court Sentences 27-Year-Old Man to 7 Years for Raping 8-Year-Old Girl

A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has convicted and sentenced 27-year-old Hussaini Suleiman to seven years’ imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl.
The judgment was delivered on Thursday, September 10, 2026, by Justice Binta Bawa of the Niger State High Court.
According to the information provided, the offence occurred at Suleiman’s residence behind the Prison Quarters in Minna, Niger State.
The case was referred to the Niger State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) by the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on April 16, 2026, following a report of the alleged rape of the minor.
The suspect reportedly admitted to committing the offence and was subsequently arraigned before Court 8 of the Niger State High Court, Minna, on September 10, 2026.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, after which the court convicted him and imposed a seven-year prison sentence.
The accused person, Hussaini Suleiman allegedly pleaded guilty after the case was referred to NAPTIP by the NSCDC in April 2026.
