A distinguished scholar, Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya , has congratulated Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Niger State.
Kuta Yahaya described Bago’s victory at the party’s gubernatorial primaries as a reflection of public confidence in purposeful leadership and governance.
In a statement personally signed and made available to newsmen in Minna over the weekend , Kuta Yahaya said the outcome of the primaries represented “the triumph of competence, vision and the enduring confidence of the people in purposeful leadership.”
He also commended the peaceful conduct of the APC primaries, describing it as evidence of democratic maturity, internal discipline and political stability within the party in Niger State.
According to him, Bago’s emergence as the APC Governorship candidate in the 2027 general elections is a continuation of what he described as a transformative leadership, vision anchored on development and service delivery.
Kuta Yahaya said, “the governor had, within a short period, inspired public confidence through infrastructural development, agricultural reforms, youth empowerment and people-oriented policies.
“History has shown that society’s progress when leadership goes beyond rhetoric and embraces service as a responsibility.
“Gov. Mohammed Umaru Bago has reawakened public confidence in governance through infrastructure renewal, agricultural revolution, youth inclusion and economic modernisation,” he said.
The professor stated that leadership should be measured by its impact on citizens rather than promises, adding that the governor’s popularity reflected public appreciation of visible achievements.
Speaking on the 2027 general elections, Kuta Yahaya expressed optimism over APC’s chances, saying electoral success was often driven by performance, trust and effective governance.
“The future belongs to leaders who understand that power is temporary, but service leaves lasting impact.
“Where governance inspires hope, strengthens institutions and restores public confidence, electoral support naturally follows.
In Niger State today, the APC has positioned itself within that reality,” he said.
Kuta Yahaya, however, urged aspirants and party stakeholders to place collective interest above personal ambition and work toward unity and reconciliation.
“Democracy flourishes where ambition is guided by wisdom and where political actors prioritise collective progress over individual interests.
“History remembers those who choose unity over division and statesmanship over bitterness,” he said.
Kuta Yahaya reaffirmed his confidence in the future of Niger State, expressing optimism that the current developmental trajectory would strengthen democratic governance and public trust.
He said leadership remained a trust bestowed by the people and judged by posterity, adding that Bago had demonstrated commitment to that responsibility.
