Bauchi State House of Assembly has changed the nomenclature of the State owned University from Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) to Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau (SAZUG).
The development followed the passage into law, a Bill to amend the nomenclature of Sa’adu Zungur University, a Private Member Bill, sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala.
The Bill sought to attach the administrative location to the name of the University in line with the global practice.
The passage of the Bill into law followed due legislative process including the successful 1st and 2nd Readings as well as diligent working by the House Committee on Education.
The mandated Committee accomplished the task given and submitted a solid report recommending the addition of a geographical location to the name of the State-owned institution.
During plenary on Wednesday, the Legislators unanimously supported the Bill describing it as a mark of respect to the ancient town of Gaɗau and its loving people.
They commended the Bill’s sponsor for his passion and immense contributions to the educational sector.
It is now clear that the Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi State will henceforth be known as “Sa’adu Zungur University, Gaɗau, Bauchi State”, consistent with global tradition in naming the institutions of learning.
However, the amendment will not affect the existing Principal Officers, Campuses or the Administrative headquarters as it is rather intended to retain the Gaɗau, Bauchi, Misau campuses while providing clear identification of the University’s location.
The Bill now awaits the assent by the State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, as head of the Executive Arm of Government in order to make it a law.

Dr Nasiru Ahmed Ala, Chairman, Bauchi House of Assembly Committee on Education
