Bauchi State First Lady, Ambassador (Dr) Aishatu Bala Mohammed, has commissioned the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) and Bauchi State Contributory Health Insurance Management Agency (BACHMA), Scheme Complex at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, to make healthcare services accessible to pregnant women.
The new Centre will make it easier for pregnant women to attend ante-natal and post-natal services as well as have skilled birth to improve child mobility and maternal mortality.
The First Lady said, “Today’s commissioning is more than the opening of another building. It represents a renewed commitment to saving lives, improving healthcare delivery, and strengthening the wellbeing of our people.”
She commended the vision and commitment of the administration of Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, for prioritising the healthcare needs of the people.
According to her, “This administration has continued to demonstrate that investment in healthcare is an investment in our people, our human capital and, ultimately, the future of Bauchi State. The commissioning of this facility is another important step in that direction.”
“The facility we are commissioning today is a significant addition to our healthcare infrastructure. It includes a labour room, intensive care unit, pharmacy, laboratories, female wards, medical records and auxiliary service centres, all designed to improve the quality, accessibility and efficiency of healthcare services,” She added.
The complex
Aisha Bala Mohammed expressed happiness that the facility has been designed to significantly cater to the healthcare needs of women and children.
She said, “This is extremely important because the health of women and children is directly connected to the wellbeing and future of our communities. When our mothers are healthy, our families are stronger; and when our children have access to quality healthcare, we are securing a healthier and more prosperous future for Bauchi State.”
“As the First Lady of Bauchi State, and as a mother, I cannot overemphasise the importance of ensuring that women have access to safe and dignified maternal healthcare, while our children receive the care and protection they deserve,” She added.
The Governor’s Wife therefore commended the management and entire staff of the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for their dedication and commitment in making the achievement possible, She particularly appreciated the Chief Medical Director, (CMD), for his leadership and for providing the direction necessary to bring this project to success.
She stressed that, “Your efforts remind us that when vision, leadership and dedication come together, meaningful development becomes possible.”
According to her, “As the First Lady of Bauchi State, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the health, dignity and wellbeing of women and children, especially those who are vulnerable and in need of our collective support.”
She therefore called on the management and staff, healthcare professionals, relevant government agencies, development partners and the people of Bauchi State to join hands together in maintaining the facility.
She said, “Let us protect the infrastructure, use the equipment responsibly, maintain a clean environment, and ensure that every patient who comes here is treated with professionalism, compassion and dignity.”
According to her, “Healthcare is a shared responsibility. Government can provide the infrastructure, but all of us have a role to play in ensuring that these investments continue to serve generations to come.
“As we commission this facility today, my prayer is that it will become a centre of healing, hope and excellence, contributing to the reduction of maternal and child mortality and improving the health and wellbeing of our people,” She said.
In his remarks, State Commissioner of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Mohammed Sani Dambam, stressed the importance of the new complex in promoting family health with particular attention to pregnant women and children under Five years.
He commended the management of the Specialist Hospital for embarking on the project which is a demonstration of prudent management of scarce resources available.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Specialist Hospital, Professor Abdulkarim Mairiga, explained that the complex was aimed at providing all round services to pregnant women and children.
He assured that specialised services will also be provided all day at regulated costs in line with the health insurance policies of the country pointing out that drugs and other consumables are received regularly from the Directorate of Drugs Management Agency.
Emir of Bauchi and Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers, Alh Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, commended the Hospital management for embarking on the project which he said will improve women and children health.
Represented by Dr Saidu Gital, the Emir assured that traditional institutions will continue to support government’s efforts at making healthcare services accessible to people.
