Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, has recognised some of its Staff for dedicated and commendable services in the 2025 year of service.
The recognition was done on Tuesday during the End of the
Year 2025 Productivity, Commendation and Award Ceremony held at the premises of the Ministry.
Speaking at the ceremony, State Head of Civil Service, Barr Mohammed Sani Esq, commended the Ministry and the Commissioner for organizing the ceremony which will serve as a morale booster in effective and efficient service delivery.
According to him, “You have done it before this, while you were at Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIVAIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, we appreciate it.”

The Head of Service, represented by one of the Directors in his office stressed that, “Motivation is not necessarily via salaries, money, but through recognition and presentation of the certificate.”
He added that, “And we know where you have documentation of two awards, it’s an equivalent of a promotion. Therefore, recommendation should be routed in their files and specifications where they will be considered in the future.”
“Therefore, the Honorable Commissioner is a personnel worker. I know anywhere he found himself, he normally initiated this. We had a similar experiences while he is in BACATMA. Therefore, I am not surprised to see the replication of what happens today,” he added.
According to him,”To the awardees, It is a privilege to have this, not because you are better than others, but because you are fortunate to come first. And I am assuring you, those who are behind you can compete better to see they also have their awards.”
He stressed that, “Therefore, I am encouraging everyone of us who is not privileged to have the award today to work hard to have one. Therefore, I wish you success in your endeavors and I also extend the best will of my Office to put more to make the trade better, to make the trade better in discharging our responsibilities.”
Earlier in his keynote address, Commissioner of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, said that,”All glory belongs to Almighty Allah, who makes everything possible, particularly for making it possible to gather here for these important and historic events. It is a double celebrations for us as we are honouring the meritorious 35 years in service of ar elder brother and mentor the Former Permanent Secretary of this Ministry; Alhaji Abubakar Usman Misau (popularly known as “Gamji”) as well as award of Commendation Letters and Certificates to deserving staff of the Ministry and our Partners.”
According to him,”The Former PS had spent more than one-third in the Bauchi State Health Sector, initially as Deputy then later as substantive Director in the Ministry as well as in BACATMA. He finally returned to Ministry as PS, where he retired in June, 2025.”
“During his stay he had contributed immensely in the development and Implementation of Health Policies. This contributed in improving the health and wellbeing of the State. Expectedly, HE Executive Governor of Bauchi State recognised him and appointed him as Permanent Commissioner I at the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC),” he added.

The Commissioner stressed that the Annual Awards Commendations Ceremony is one of the initiatives of the Ministry’s current management which is serving as a morale booster as well as potent motivator.
According to him,”To ensure that the process is objective, a rigorous and systematic process was employed. This include setting guideline, inclusion and exclusion criteria, robust assessments. The nominations were initiated at the Department and final screening of nominees at the Top Management Meetings with over 10 sittings.”
Sani Mohammed Dambam explained that, “The inclusion criteria included that a nominee must have spent at least 6 months, must not had received similar award in the last 2 years. The exclusion criteria are the nominee must not have received a query within the last 2 years or involved in some gross behavioural misconduct.”
He further explained that, “At the departmental level, the staff were assessed on multi-dimensional scoring system which included; Productivity, Attendance,
Punctuality, Regularity, Dependability, Professionalism, Creativity, Relationship, Team Work, Sub-ordination, Orderliness, etc.”
According to him,”Nominations were also made for different cadres and Grade Levels. The Directors were nominated by the PS while the CEOs of the Health MDAs by the HCH&SW.”
He added that, “Some of the directing scope extended beyond the core Ministry (MDAs/LGAs/Patrons). It is gratifying to note that despite the fact that this Administration have inherited myriads of challenges in the Health Sector of the State, hence His Excellency has been giving topmost priority to the Health Sector since the inception of this Administration.”
He stressed that,”This led to tremendous improvement of the Health indices in the State; although we have not yet reached our desired goal. Similarly, let me express my appreciations for the support we have being receiving from our Donor Partners ably led by the WHO, these include but not limited to: UNICEF, GF, USAID, UKAID, MSF, Red Cross, etc.”
“On the same lane, I wish to express my profound gratitude to other stakeholders such as the Traditional/Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, the CBOs, Media, Artisans, etc for the numerous supports we have being receiving. Equally, I wish to acknowledge the dedication of our Healthcare Workers in the State,”The Commissioner concluded.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, stated that,”We are gathered here today to celebrate excel, hardwork and dedication, the qualities that continue to drive the Ministry Health and Social Welfare toward achieving its mission of Improving health and delivering quality healthcare for all.”
He stressed that,”As we reflect on the year gone by, it is evident that we have made significant strides in strengthening our health systems, improving service delivery, and responding to emerging health challenges.”
According to him, “None of these achievements would have been possible without the collective efforts of our dedicated staff members, healthcare workers, administrators, and partners.”
The Permanent Secretary added that, “This ceremony is not only about recognizing outstanding achievements, but also about acknowledging the dedication, teamwork, and shared commitment that shape the success of our Ministry. It is a moment to celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in the discharge of their duties, and whose contributions have made a meaningful impact.”
He also stated that,”Today, as we honour our outstanding colleagues, let us be reminded that productivity and excellence are not merely individual accomplishments, but the result of collaboration, shared values, and a common purpose. We are not just public servants; we are stewards of public health, and our work directly impacts the lives of millions of people across the State.”
“I would also like to take this moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone for their unwavering commitment to the ministry’s goals. I also want to thank our partner’s, stakeholders and supporters who have stood with us throughout the Year,” he added.
He concluded that,”As we celebrate today’s awardees. Let us remember every contribution, no matter how small, plays a critical role in building the strong foundation of health Care we strive for.Let us therefore continue to uphold these values of excellence, dedication and teamwork as we move forward together in the service to our people.”
Responding on behalf of the awardees, of the awardees, the Provost of Aliko Dangote College of Health Sciences, Rakiya Saleh, commended the Ministry for the recognition saying that it will spur them to do more while it will challenge others to do better.
