The Senator currently representing Bauchi North Senatorial District of Bauchi State, Samaila Dahuwa Kaila, on Monday, lost his bid to return to the Senate under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as he was defeated at the party primaries.
Recall that, Dahuwa Kaila was elected to the Senate under the banner of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but defected to the APC in 2025 and led the strong opposition against the planned defection of the Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed into the APC.
While announcing results of the direct primaries on Monday, Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Brig – Gen Saidu Abdulhameed (Rtd), stated that three aspirants contested for the sole ticket.
According to him, “Samaila Dahuwa Kaila scored 12,912 votes, Ibrahim Mohammed Baba polled 22,744 votes while Sirajo Ibrahim Tanko polled 5,202 votes.”
The Chairman then declared, “Therefore, Ibrahim Mohammed Baba, having satisfied the requirements and having garnered the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner for Bauchi North Senatorial District.”
Also, for Bauchi South Senatorial District, the Chairman declared Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi as winner of the APC ticket having polled a total of 25,762 votes to defeat four other aspirants.
He disclosed that, Brigadier-General Abubakar Suleiman Maikano (Rtd) polled a total of 6,870 votes, Hon Shehu Aliyu Dass polled 6,648 votes, Rt Hon Abdulmumini Kundak, polled 4,975 votes and Ibrahim Usman, polled 4,922 votes.
He then declared, “Therefore, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, having satisfied the Constitutional requirements and guidelines of the election, is hereby declared the winner of Bauchi South Senatorial District APC ticket.”
The Committee also declared results of the Bauchi Federal Constituency contested for by five aspirants including the son of the former Governor of the State, Isa Yuguda.
According to the results, Idris Isa Yuguda polled 4,053 votes, Salisu Sabo, 1,410 votes, Bidi’atu Inuwa, 1,350 votes, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo, 13,190 votes and Mohammed Mustapha, 1,214 votes.
“Therefore, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo having satisfied constitutional requirements and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the Bauchi Federal Constituency ticket of the APC.
