The Rotary International with the The Rotary Foundation GG2576251 in partnership with the Rotary Club of ur Springs, Missouri, USA, Julie Agada Foundation and Rotary Club of Bauchi Central in Bauchi State have dug twelve hand pump boreholes worth N15m for twelve different communities in Bauchi in order to mitigate the problem of water in the communities.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Founder and sponsor of the Julie Agada Foundation, William Agada, who is a foreign based footballer, said the project was aimed at supporting communities with access to safe drinking water considering the hardship they are facing in getting good and safe water.
He further said that the facilities were part of efforts to give back to society and improve the living conditions of people in the benefiting communities.
According to him, “I decided to come up with the project in partnership with Rotary in the USA and in Bauchi as a way to give back to society.”
“I am a footballer presently in the USA; Bauchi is my community and this is just the beginning of such interventions,” he said.
Williams Agada called on youths to work hard toward realizing their ambitions, stressing the importance of determination and hard work.
President of Rotary Club of Bauchi Central, Ms Comfort Attah, explained that members of the Club would conduct routine checks on the facilities to ascertain their operational and maintenance status.
She urged community members to comply with maintenance guidelines and ensure that only qualified personnel were engaged to carry out repairs whenever necessary.
Also speaking, Morris Choji, a past President of the Rotary Club of Bauchi Central, urged the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities to ensure constant access to safe drinking water.
He advised the communities to protect the boreholes and ensure their proper use and maintenance.
According to him, “Today we are commissioning a project in partnership with Julie Agada Foundation and the Rotary Club of Blue Springs, Missouri, USA. So it’s a partnership that we intend to maintain, we drilled 12 motorized hand pump boreholes within Bauchi Metropolis.”
According to him,”So Julie Agada Foundation was brought about because there’s a footballer that grew up in Gudum Ssyawa and went to Israel, then to United States where he got a club. So along the line, he wanted to do a Foundation for his mom. So he’s also into the helping hands. So he decided to create a foundation.*
He added, “And while in the U.S., he partnered with our Rotary Club of Blue Springs in Missouri, USA with the Bauchi Club to be able to drill these hand pump boreholes. So we came together and did it in 12 locations.*
He added,”So we’re about to commission one of the projects here with him. So since he’s around before he goes back to continue, so we decided to come together so that we commission this project before he leaves. That’s why we’re here.”
Speaking on behalf of Unguwan Jaki community, Malam Sunusi Bala, a community leader, appreciated the gesture and promised that residents would protect the facilities and ensure that they remained functional.
He said the provision of the borehole would go a long way in improving access to potable water in the community.
In his own, the Community leader of Dumi, Hussaini Abubakar, thanked William Agada for remembering his root and coming back to give to the society.
He assured that residents of the area will live to remember the gesture assuring that they will take care of facility and make sure that it functions at all times.
The benefiting communities include Turum, Wuro Bobbo, Tudun Maizamani, Rafin Zurfi, Zango, Dandango, Unguwan Jaki, Dungulbi, Gudum Sayawa, Gudum Hausawa, Dumi and Bigi.
