Niger State All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted consensus for the party’s Senatorial District primary elections for the Niger East and Niger North, while the Niger South Senatorial District goes for the direct primary to elect its candidate for the senatorial seat.
The APC State Publicity Secretary, Musa D. Sarkin-kaji made this is known during an interview with journalists in Minna, saying that the Niger North and East Senatorial Zones are to go through affirmations haven resolved to adopt a candidate for the exalted seats.
Sarkin-kaji explained that efforts to reconcile aspirants in Niger South were unsuccessful because of the large number of contenders for the seat.
While the governor had subsequently directed that the ticket should be decided through a free and fair primary election.
He commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and other party leaders for what he described as “sleepless nights’’ in reconciling aspirants ahead of the primaries, a testament of the unwavering commitment of the party and leadership on ensuring the unity and peace.
According to him, aspirants in Niger North senatorial district agreed to step aside for former governor, Sen. Abubakar Sani-Bello, who will fly the flag of the party to continue as the consensus candidate.
He added that the governor also held a series of meetings to reconcile aspirants contesting for the Niger East senatorial seat for the incumbent Senator Mohammed Sani Musa 313 to emerged as the concensus as Alhaji Bello Bawa Bwari agreed to step down.
“The issues were resolved and the stakeholders agreed to allow the incumbent senator, Sen. Mohammed Sani Musa, to continue.
“So, today in Niger East and Niger North senatorial districts, what we are having is affirmation and not election,” he said.
He added that “the governor has done his best to reconcile the Niger South aspirants, but they could not resolve among themselves.
He revealed that the party had over 100 aspirants for the House of Assembly positions, in addition to several contestants for senatorial seats across the state.
The APC spokesman assured party members that officials deployed to conduct the exercise in the area were drawn from different districts to guarantee credibility, noted that the rules guiding the primary elections will be strictly observed to ensure level playing atmosphere for all aspirants.
