The Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board(NSPWB) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Niger State Command, to facilitate the timely issuance of e-passports for intending pilgrims, following recent changes in passport processing procedures.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Comptroller of Immigration, Niger State Command, Comptroller H. C. Maduka, on Tuesday, in Minna.
He was represented at the visit by the Director of Administration of the Board, Malam Ado Bello, alongside members of the Board’s management team.
The Executive Secretary noted that the recent policy shift by the Nigerian Immigration Service, which centralised passport processing, has resulted in delays in the issuance of e-passports for intending pilgrims.
He stressed the need for enhanced cooperation to address the challenges and ensure smooth preparations for the forthcoming Hajj operations.
While commending the consistent support of the Niger State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service in facilitating seamless Hajj operations in previous years, the Executive Secretary assured the Service of the Board’s continued partnership and cooperation.
In his response, the Comptroller of Immigration, Niger State Command, Comptroller H C Maduka, expressed the Command’s readiness to explore practical solutions to address delays in e-passport issuance for intending pilgrims in the State.
He disclosed that the Command has already facilitated the release of about 300 passport booklets and is working to clear existing backlogs in order to prevent further delays.
The Comptroller assured the Board of maximum support to ensure timely and successful Hajj operations in Niger State.
