The Gubernatorial Candidate of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Niger State in the 2027 general elections, Alhaji Mohammed Mamman Nami, has promised to embark on people-oriented governance that prioritises economic opportunities, quality education, accessible healthcare, security and inclusive development across the state if voted into power
He.gave the commitment while outlining his vision ahead of the 2027 governorship election that anchored on the philosophy, “People First, Progress Always.” saying his political aspiration was not merely to win an election but to provide a new direction for Niger State, empower communities and create opportunities for every citizen.
Mohammed Nami said his vision was to place citizens at the centre of governance by ensuring that government policies and programmes translated into tangible improvements in their respective lives.
The Gubernatorial Candidate emphasized that Niger State has enormous human and natural resources which, if properly harnessed through purposeful leadership and an enabling environment for investment, could be transformed into sustainable prosperity.
He revealed that if elected, his administration would focus on creating jobs and empowering young people, women, farmers, entrepreneurs and other productive segments of the society..
The former FIRS Chairman identified agriculture, solid minerals, water resources and the state’s strategic location as key areas capable of driving economic growth.
According to him, “my vision is to reduce overdependence on government employment by creating an environment where businesses could grow, industries thrive and citizens develop sustainable livelihoods.”
The PDP candidate in the state identified education as a major pillar of his proposed administration, describing it as critical to breaking the cycle of poverty and preparing young people for the future.
He promised to strengthen basic and secondary education while expanding access to tertiary, technical and vocational training.
Nami stressed that poverty or geographical location should not prevent any child in Niger State from accessing quality education, adding that young people must be equipped with practical skills to compete effectively in a knowledge-driven economy.
Speaking on the healthcare delivery, Nami pledged to strengthen primary healthcare services, maternal and child health programmes, preventive medicine and access to medical services, particularly in rural communities.
He also identified security as a prerequisite for sustainable development, saying “farmers must access their farms without fear, children attend schools safely and businesses operate in a peaceful environment.
He thereby called for stronger collaboration among government, security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.
Similarly, on infrastructure, Nami said roads, electricity, water supply, drainage and transportation remained essential to economic development.
The PDP governorship candidate promised to placed particular attention to rural infrastructure to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, connect farmers with markets and reduce post-harvest losses.
Nami explained that responsive and accountable governance would be central to his administration if voted into power stressing the need for regular engagement with citizens, civil society organisations, professional bodies, traditional institutions, youth and women groups.
He explained further that, participatory governance would enable government to identify challenges early and respond effectively to the needs of the people.
Nami said his vision was not limited to articulating policies but focused on translating them into measurable programmes and projects capable of improving the living conditions of citizens.
He maintained that the performance of any government should ultimately be measured by tangible outcomes, including jobs creation, schools improved, healthcare strengthened, businesses supported, communities developed and citizens empowered.
Nami noted that his vision was to unite the people of Niger around a common aspiration of shared prosperity, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic or religious considerations or geographical location.
