Concerned citizens in Niger State have respectful sent a passionate appeal to the State Government, led by Governor Umar Muhammad Bago, and all key stakeholders regarding the ongoing strike at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL).
The people who refused to disclose their identities stated in a Letter of Appeal that the Undergraduate Students of the University were only weeks away from their examinations when academic activities were suspended.
They added that, ”today, Saturday 5th September, 2026,thousands of young minds remain at home in deep uncertainty, eagerly waiting for a resolution so they can return to campus and complete their studies.”
‘We humbly appeal to the government to intervene swiftly and facilitate an urgent dialogue with ASSU IBBUL branch so that campus gates can reopen for lectures and examinations without further delay, stressing that bringing staff welfare demands, including salary increments, to the negotiation table and resolving them amicably is vital for the long-term stability of our education system”, the statement added.
The statement emphasized that it is also important to recognize the heavy financial strain on parents, guardians, and students who face extra expenses on transportation, food, and accommodation every time school operations are disrupted,saying that restoring standard, uninterrupted academic operations will ensure students can learn properly and graduate as scheduled.
The unidentified group noted that “As 2027 approaches, the well-being and education of young people remain top priorities for families across the state, who will deeply appreciate every positive effort made today to protect their children’s future.
“We plead with the government to act swiftly, open IBBUL, and bring students back to the lecture halls”
It however explained that, “Education is the foundation of Niger State’s progress, and we trust that our leaders will do the needful for the future of our youth”.
