The Niger State Chapter of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), has affirmed the nomination of a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS) Mohammed Mamman Nami, as it’s Governorship candidate for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
This followed a resolution reached at the end of the party’s executive committee meeting with local government party chairmen, held for the supplementary affirmation of candidates for the 2027 general elections in Minna.
The State Chairman of the PDP , Alhaji Aliyu Haliru Kaura declared the affirmation after a motion was moved for a unanimous endorsement of Nami as a replacement of it’s earlier candidate Abubakar Suleiman who voluntarily stepped down from the contest that paved way for Mamman Nami as replacement.
He described the decision as part of efforts to strengthened the party’s chances in the next year’s general elections in the state to ensure a smooth transition in it’s campaign ahead of 2027 polls.
Kaura maintained that the new candidate will consolidate the party’s grassroot support base to commence engagement with party members, stakeholders, and the electorates in general towards the general elections.
According to him, the window was based on the electoral act and the party for replacement of candidates anytime within the time frame.
“The party’s candidate willingly withdraw and we have affirmed Mohammed Mamman Nami, we know his capacity and what he can do for Nigerlites that is why we replaced him with our earlier gubernatorial candidate of the party” he stated.
The party however, handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), officials for onward to the national headquarters for further uploading to INEC portal so as to authenticate their replacement accordingly.
Nami, a former Niger South Senatorial aspirant who earlier contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC), is now expected to lead the PDP’s campaign in its bid to challenge the incumbent Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago of APC , during the forthcoming 2027 governorship election in Niger State..
