Niger State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ladidi Bawa Bosso, has reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting local artistes and repositioning the state as a hub for cultural tourism.
She made the assertion during a strategic engagement with the Niger State Artistes and Entertainment Group, held at the UK Bello Arts Theatre, Minna.
It brought together representatives of eight key creative groups, including musicians, actors, comedians, fashion designers, and other stakeholders in the arts and entertainment sector.
The Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Lubabatu Mohammed Kusheriki stated this in a Press statement issued and made available to Journalists on Friday in Minna
The statement added that in her address, Hon. Bawa Bosso described culture as a critical asset for economic growth and social cohesion, stressing the need for sustained collaboration between government and creatives.
She noted that Niger State’s rich cultural heritage, artistic talents, and hospitality provide strong foundations for tourism development and job creation.
“Our culture is our strength. By working together, we can project Niger State’s arts, traditions, and creativity to the world, unlock economic opportunities, and position the state as a preferred cultural and tourism destination,” she stated.
According to the statement, artistes at the meeting openly shared concerns bordering on funding, infrastructure, access to platforms, and recognition for local content.
They called for increased support for events, improved facilities, and more opportunities to showcase their talents within and beyond the state.
Responding, the Director Culture of the Ministry, Mrs. Marter Ibrahim, alongside the Acting Executive Director, Arts Council, Malam Baba T. Dokochi, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the inclusive engagement and assured stakeholders of the Ministry’s resolve to translate discussions into actionable outcomes.
Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by management staff of the Ministry and concluded with a shared commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable cultural and creative ecosystem in Niger State.
