ASUU berates Niger Gov’t for attempt forceful take-over of FUTMinna Bosso Campus

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abuja Zone, has criticised the Niger State Government over what the Union  described as attempts to forcefully take over the Bosso Campus of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna).

The union stated this  at a press conference held at the university’s main Campus,  Gidan Kwano Minna, off Minna-Bida Highways warning that the dispute has raised serious concerns about land ownership, due process and institutional autonomy.

ASUU Abuja Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Adams Al-Amin Abdullahi, maintained that the Bosso Campus is owned by the Federal Government, stressing that it was acquired in 1983 through a formal transaction valued at ₦2.8 million and not on lease as being claimed by Niger State Government

He traced the origin of the dispute to a declaration by the  State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago to repossess the campus, which was followed by official correspondences, including a quit notice issued in October 2025 and another in November same year, directing the university to vacate the premises within a short period or face consequences.

The situation, according to him, escalated in February 2026 when a delegation led by the Deputy Governor visited the Bosso Campus of FUTMinna  and began marking out portions of the land for state use without prior engagement with the university authorities, an action the union described as a violation of due process and institutional autonomy.

ASUU noted that the Bosso Campus remains a critical component of the university, housing staff residences, academic departments, research laboratories, student hostels and other essential facilities developed over several decades.

It however warned that any attempt to displace the university or enforce shared use of the facilities could disrupt academic activities and trigger conflicts.

The union also raised concerns over the role of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki, declaring him persona non grata over alleged conflict of interest and calling on the Federal Government to appoint a replacement.

ASUU reaffirmed its solidarity with the FUTMinna branch and the university administration, urging the Niger State Government to withdraw from what it described as an unjustified dispute and respect the institution’s ownership of the Bosso Campus.
