The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has confirmed that one of its students, Nuhu Nazif Mohammed, has indeed been expelled from the institution in line with all relevant laws of the institution.
The Polytechnic therefore dismissed media reports that it expelled the students, unjustifiable, stating that nothing can be farther from such a narrative.
The disclaimer was contained in a Press statement signed and issued to Journalists on Saturday by Mohammed Rabiu Wada, Director, Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the Polytechnic.
He wrote, “Attention of the Management of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi has been drawn to a misleading online publication dated July 26, 2026 titled “Police Summon Former Bauchi Polytechnic Deputy Rector over Alleged Assault, Threats Against Ex-Student.”
The Polytechnic stated, “It is no doubt, a handiwork of detractors who are bent on derailing the 47-year-old reputable Institution from playing its role of moulding students in learning and character. However, detractors’ tendencies like the one in question have the tendency to mislead the general public if left unattended.”
The Polytechnic added, “Against the background of the above, we wish to set the records straight.
The publication, emanating from a medium known for its junk-styled-journalism described Dr. Dalhatu Sa’idu Abubakar as “former” Deputy Rector. Dr. Abubakar remains the duly appointed Deputy Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.”
“The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, in case our detractors are not aware, awards certificates strictly based on character and learning, in line with our mandate and the Polytechnics Act. All registered students of the Polytechnic are made to swear the matriculation oath which requires them to without fear or favor abide by the rules and regulations, failure of which attracts corresponding penalty. No student is denied his/her right where due process is followed,” It stressed.
According to the Polytechnic, “The said student, Nuhu Nazif Muhammad, was invited by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee over an alleged case of misconduct involving a lecturer. The Committee, duly established in line with the Polytechnics Act 2019 (amended), invited him to appear on 4th November and 11th November 2025 respectively.”.
It stressed that,”Both invitation letters were duly served on him and which he acknowledged receipt, responding he will not appear because the Committee lacks the power to invite him. His replies were dated 5th November and 12th November 2025 respectively.”
It added that, “After failing to honour the Committee’s invitation, the student contacted the Deputy Rector, Dr. Dalhatu Sa’idu Abubakar, seeking for “soft-landing”.
“As a criminologist, Dr. Abubakar granted him audience in his office, only to realise that the student was secretly recording their conversations on his mobile phone,” it added.
The Polytechnic added, “The Deputy Rector cautioned and asked him to delete the unauthorized recording for fear of doctoring due to cyber bullying and he refused. The Deputy Rector swiftly place a call across to the Security Unit to send a security to his office, on arrival, the security staff asked him to delete the recording he also refuse.”
According to the Polytechnic, “This leads to the security Unit to referring the matter to the “E” Division of the Nigerian Police Force, Yelwa. The DPO later accompanied the student to the Polytechnic, and the student tendered an apology to the Deputy Rector.”
It stated further, “However, since his meeting with the Deputy Rector was not fruitful as he expected, he then resorted to another means of cheap blackmail by writing the Polytechnic on 10th February 2026, through an NGO (Take it back Movement) that he was going to stage a protest in respect of his alleged unlawful expulsion.”
“The Management quickly informed the Commissioner of Police and copied the letter to State Security Service (DSS), in order to avert an ugly situation which may likely jeopadise the already enjoyed peace and stability in the Polytechnic and environment,” It added .
The Management of the Polytechnic then stated, “without contempt, that the student has been expelled having been found wanting character-wise. The matter was handled within the provisions of the Polytechnic’s rules and regulations. Any attempt to misrepresent the facts to tarnish the image of the Institution and its Principal Officers will not be condoned.”
It added,”We urge members of the public to disregard the false narrative and respect the right of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi to punish or reward staff and students as the case may be, and where necessary.”
