Zulum Warns Against Aiding Boko Haram Insurgents

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has warned residents against aiding, harboring, or providing logistical support to Boko Haram insurgents.
The Governor declared that anyone implicated in such act will be treated as an insurgent and be dealt with in accordance with the relevant laws of the country no matter the status of such an individual or group.
The warning followed recent operations conducted by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, in the Jilli general area of Gubio Local Government Area on April 11, 2026.
Jilli is a border community between Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State and Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, Babagana Zulum described Jilli market as a notorious hub allegedly used by insurgents and their logistics suppliers.
According to him, “I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states.”
“Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago,” the Governor said.
“I am in close consultation with the Government of Yobe State and the military hierarchy on the matter,” he added.
The Governor explained that the Borno State Government maintains close coordination with the military and other security agencies before resettling any community or reopening markets, particularly in areas affected by insurgency.
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens and sustaining collaborative efforts with security agencies to restore lasting peace and stability across the state.
The Governor further urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that will aid ongoing military operations.
Recall that, on Saturday, 11th April, 2026, not fewer than Sixty people were reported to have been killed during an air strike on Jilli market by Operatives of the NAF.
A source said the fighter jet was tracking a group of suspected insurgents at the time of the strike ,but did not hit the intended target.
The Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the development , but said no official casualty figures were available as of the time of filing this report.
Abdulkarim said, “We are aware of the incident that occurred at Dilli Market along the Borno–Yobe border, and we are currently gathering information on what transpired. At this moment, we do not have confirmed casualty figures, as details are still being verified.
“Security agencies are on the ground assessing the situation, while efforts are ongoing to ensure proper documentation and response, after which the public will be duly informed with accurate and official updates.”
