The Niger State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips has commenced and sustained the enforcement of the IGP’s directives, prohibiting the use of vehicles without registration number plates, defaced/obscured number plates and vehicles with tinted glass in line with the Road Traffic Act and Regulations.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command SP Abiodun Abiodun stated this in a statement issued and made available to Journalists over the weekend in Minna
The statement added that the enforcement exercise commenced on 20th June 2026 in the State as part of the Police’s efforts to strengthen internal security, enhance prevention of vehicle-related crime, improve vehicular identification and ensure strict compliance with road traffic laws.
“This exercise is also aimed at denying criminal elements the opportunity to exploit the use of unregistered or concealed vehicles to perpetrate criminal activities and evade detection of such crimes by security agencies”, said SP Abiodun.
A cording to him, In the course of this enforcement, Police operatives of the Command intercepted a total number of eighty-two (82) vehicles found to be operating on the roads without registration number plates, or obscured/defaced registration number plates and tinted glass in contravention of the law.
He however noted that, after the appropriate screening, those who were found wanting were further investigated and charged to courts of competent jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with relevant laws.
The Commissioner of Police reiterates that the enforcement continues and it is not aimed at inconveniencing law-abiding citizens but to ensure prevention of crime, reinforce public safety and strengthen the internal security architecture in the State. He further reiterates that registration of vehicles is not mainly for vehicle identification but also serves as a critical tool for intelligence gathering, crime investigation and prompt linking of vehicles used for committing a particular crime or offence.
The CP therefore enjoins all vehicle owners and motorists to ensure that vehicles operating on our roads are duly registered and fitted with clearly visible registration number plates at all times.
He encourages members of the public to be law-abiding and comply with all extant traffic laws and regulations, and cooperate with Police operatives carrying out their statutory responsibilities of enforcement which is in the interest of national security.
