The Niger State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting ethical journalism and strengthening collaboration with professional media bodies to enhance public information management and enlightenment across the state.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, stated this on Monday during a courtesy visit to his office by Executive members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Niger State Chapter.
Obed Nana emphasized that the government would continue to engage credible media stakeholders to ensure the dissemination of accurate, timely, and reliable information, noting that ethical journalism is indispensable to good governance, peace, and sustainable development.
He however commended women journalists for their contributions to the profession, describing them as “key partners in nation-building,” and lauded their ability to balance professional duties with family responsibilities.
The commissioner thereby assured NAWOJ of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives aimed at promoting ethical journalism, combating misinformation and disinformation, and expanding public enlightenment campaigns across the state.
Earlier, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr. Asabe Suleiman Garba, explained that the visit was intended to strengthen the existing relationship between the association and the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
She reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to professionalism and ethical journalism, expressing the association’s willingness to partner with the ministry on public enlightenment and capacity-building programmes to enhance journalism practice in Niger State.
Both parties pledged to sustain their collaboration to promote responsible journalism, improve access to credible information, and support the state’s development through effective communication.
