The Federal Government has distributed 20,160 bags of free fertiliser to 5,040 small holder farmers in Bauchi State to support agricultural production during the 2026 wet farming season.
The intervention, implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, was flagged off in Bauchi on Monday.
Speaking at the event, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NADF, Jamilu Adamu Dabo, said the Farmers’ Input Support Programme targets farmers cultivating less than one hectare of land, particularly those farming between zero and half a hectare.
He explained that each beneficiary is to receive four 50kg bags of Nagari NPK 20:10:10 fertiliser free, adding that the beneficiaries were identified through a collaborative process involving the Bauchi State Government and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).
According to him, the lists submitted by the state government and AFAN were validated by the NADF before the final selection of beneficiaries to ensure transparency in the distribution process.
Dabo said the programme is aimed at easing the burden of rising production costs, improving access to essential farm inputs, increasing agricultural productivity, and strengthening food security across the country.
Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Bauchi State Chapter, Yusuf Sambo, commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the NADF for the intervention.
He disclosed that about 60 percent of the beneficiaries are members of AFAN, describing the support as timely and significant for small holder farmers.
Sambo also explained that to reduce transportation challenges for beneficiaries from distant local government areas, farmers were allowed to form clusters and appoint representatives to collect the fertiliser on their behalf.
” The representatives are required to present beneficiaries’ text message notifications and other identification details before the fertiliser was released”.
He expressed confidence that the intervention would significantly boost crop production and improve the livelihoods of farmers across Bauchi State.
Some of the beneficiaries Musa Tela Gary from Katagum, Umar Sani from Toro and Hafsat Mohammed Sani from Bauchi Local government area expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, noting that the fertiliser support would reduce their production costs and enable them to cultivate more land during the current farming season.
