Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 20-year old man, Umar Sa’idu, for the offence of attempted culpable homicide.
He was arrested by operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), of the Command, Bauchi Base in Karofin Madaki area, of Bauchi metropolis.
The arrest followed a report received on 5th September, 2026 at about 0900hrs that the suspect, after a minor disagreement with 34-year-old Hassan Muhammad, of the same area, rushed into his house, returned with a cutlass and attacked the victim.

During the attack, the victim was seriously injured on his two hands while shielding his head from being smashed by the cutlass.
Upon receipt of the report, VCRU personnel promptly mobilized to the scene, rushed the victim to Tashan Babiye Primary Healthcare Centre for treatment, traced and arrested the suspect.
Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court on completion.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the VCRU and CJTF operatives for their prompt and professional response.
He ordered discreet investigation into the cases and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained collaboration with all security stakeholders to safeguard lives and property in the State, as contained in a statement signed by
SP Nafiu Habib, Police Public Relations Officer, made available to Journalists on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has taken custody of one suspect and various exhibits handed over by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Bauchi State Command, following operations conducted in some areas of the state capital to prevent criminal activities across the State.
On 4th September, 2026 at about 0900hrs, CJTF operatives on patrol around Bakin Kura area, Bauchi, intercepted one Aboy Torkila, found in possession of a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.
The suspect could not give a satisfactory account of how he acquired the motorcycle, leading to his arrest.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect and handed over to the Police include: One Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, red in colour, One sharp knife, One fabricated master key (Chori), Some quantity of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, Two spanners and One lighter.
In addition, the CJTF handed over other exhibits recovered during its operations across the State within the period, comprising four cutlasses, five iron rods, four knives, three sharp horns (Kaho), nine criminal charms, eighteen lighters, some quantity of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, one set of shisha items, four wraps of substance suspected to be ice, one rubber solution, one exiplon tube and one piscof.
