Bauchi discovers over 3,000 ghost workers, save N4.16b

Not fewer than 3000 ghost workers have been discovered in the payroll of Bauchi State Civil Service leading to the saving of a whopping sum of N4.16b in the process of the fight against the syndrome.
The disclosure was made during a briefing at the end of an extraordinary meeting of the State Economic Council presided over by the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The meeting which was held on Thursday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Gov Office, was attended by critical stakeholders in the financial and revenue sectors of the state.
Though it was held behind closed doors, the State Head of Civil Service, Barr Mohammed Sani Umar ESQ and the Governor’s Chief Economic Adviser, Alh Yahuza Adamu Haruna briefed Government House Correspondents on its outcome.
Mohammed Sani Umar Esq, said that the Economic Council deliberated on several developmental issues as they related to the Civil Service and it’s effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
He disclosed that the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed approved  the commencemt of payment of monthly stipends to Imams of various Juma’at Mosques across the State and Christian Clergies in various Churches.
According to him, “The issues of allowances for Imams and Pastors is irrespective of sects and denominations. The last step that we are going to take is to get the economic and financial implications for the implementation.”
He further revealed that the Economic Council meeting deliberated extensively on the commencement of payment of salaries to the newly appointed Emirs and District Heads across the state and that government has made adequate cash flow for their susteinance.
On his part the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Yahuza Adamu Haruna, said that the Economic Council meeting deliberated on the State’s salary administration.
He said they worked with a consulting firm Onyx Investment Advisory Limited to identify and fish out over 3,000  ghost workers, saving the state a whopping sum of over N4 billion.
“As God will have it, in August 2024, we  took over the salary payment of the state from a consulting firm, and the salary payment was full of complaints but since the exercise was done, nobody complaint again”.
