Bauchi State Government has threatened to revoke the ongoing contract for the constitution of a new Accident and Emergency Complex of the Alkaleri General Hospital.
The Government has therefore expressed displeasure and dissatisfaction with the slow and lackadadical execution of the contract by the contractor.
The expression was made by the Commissioner of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, when he paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the complex on Friday.
The Commissioner who was taken aback with the development lamented that the Contractor is deliberately slowing down the project despite collecting funds from government for the project.
According to him, “This project is so dear to the Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who has invested much in developing the health sector. The hospital was intended to serve people of the area particularly travelers when involved in accidents considering the location of the facility.”
He lamented the inability of the Contractor to finish the Project which was awarded since 2021, despite receiving over 80% of the contract sum.
The Commissioner added that, “The contractor has remained adamant and defiant despite serving him with several Letters of ultimatum, the Project is still less than 60% completed.”
Sani Mohammed Dambam declared that, “The Government will not continue to tolerate non-performance. It is either he completed the project according to specifications or risk losing it.”
He further warned that the contractor should immediately go back to site and get the job done or risk sanction.
All efforts to get reaction from the contractor failed as the site engineer declined comment saying that it was only the contractor that can talk.
