Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday, 26th May 2026, officially launched its newly established _Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU)_ during a ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Jos Road, Bauchi.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Bauchi State Government, the Emir of Bauchi, other traditional rulers, heads of sister security agencies, members of the host community, and stakeholders from civil society organizations.
The VCRU was established under the directive of the 24th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in order to enhance the Command’s capacity for swift, intelligence-driven, and coordinated responses to violent crimes.
These include armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, and other threats to public safety. The unit is equipped with specially trained personnel and modern operational resources to ensure rapid deployment and effective containment of security threats across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and stronger collaboration with government and the public to safeguard lives and property.
CSP Abdurrazaq Padah has been appointed as the pioneer Commander of the unit.
The Commissioner expressed confidence in his leadership and operational expertise to effectively drive the mandate of the unit.
The representative of the Governor commended the initiative and pledged continued support for security operations in the state.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the representative of the Emir of Bauchi, the District Head of the host community, and the representative of the Brigade Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi.
In his remarks, Wazirin Bauchi, Alh. Muhammad Kari, who represented the Emir of Bauchi, expressed satisfaction and confidence in the newly established unit and the Command at large.
He further assured the Command of the Emirate’s sustained support.
The Command appreciated the support of the state government, the Emirate, and the citizens, and assures the public of its resolve to maintain law, order, and public safety through professional and responsive policing.
The ceremony concluded with the inspection of VCRU ‘s, personnel, equipment and operational vehicles, followed by the commissioning of the unit’s base, _Hawk Base_.
