Bogo community suffers access to healthcare services following collapse of facility

Residents of Bogo Community in Grako ward of Akko LGA in Gombe State have called on the relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency come to their aid regarding the only health facility in the area which is in a very dilapidated condition.

The only Primary Healthcare Centre in the area has remained a dangerous structure for both the workers and the patients due to the failing of the building which has remained unattended to over the years

The temporary ward

Before the structure finally collapsed, the workers are said to have been managing to operate, sometimes, using their salaries for little repairs in order to keep it standing.

One of the community leaders who spoke on the condition of anonymity lamented that the Bogo PHC in Hayin Kwarin Misau, has collapsed following a heavy downpour few weeks ago.

The larger part of the facility has been destroyed forcing it to temporarily close services to clients thereby creating hardship as they have to go to other facilities that are far away from the community.

The community leader stressed that the facility has remained dilapidated for a very long time before it finally gave way due to negligence by the concerned authorities.

He therefore urged the Akko LGA Council Chairperson to immediately come to the aid of the residents especially pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and their children.

Checks at the facility revealed that it witnesses between 20 and 35 pregnant women on first visit for ANC while between 35 to 50 are on revist on a monthly basis.

Also, between 10 to 15 pregnant women visit the facility for skilled birth delivery just as between 50 to 60 children are brought for routine immunisation (RI).

Facility also have inflow of between 1000 to 1500 out Patients just as 40 to 50 clients visit for family planning services monthly.

As of the time of filling the report, the facility is operating from the living room of the only Staff quarters within the premises which is not protected as the fence has since collapsed.
