The Chanchaga Local Government Council of Niger State under the leadership of it’s Executive Chairperson, Dr. Mustapha Mohammed Jibril, has convened a one-day conference on the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen primary health care services across the area.
Welcoming participants, the Director of the Primary Health Care Department, Hajiya Rabi Yusuf, provided an overview of the BHCPF and its role in improving grassroots healthcare delivery.
She announced a significant increase in capitation for primary health care centres, noting that funding for four high-volume PHC focal centres has risen from ₦300,750 to ₦800,000.
The remaining seven focal centres will now receive ₦600,000 each, up from ₦300,750, in line with the Annual Operational Plan and Quarterly Business Plan.
Hajiya Rabi stressed the importance of strict adherence to approved business plans, advising facilitators not to spend outside their quarterly provisions.
She urged proper documentation of activities and accurate record-keeping of expenditures and receipts.
She further disclosed the addition of new facilities to the PHC network, including Barikin Sale and Nikangbe in Minna South, B’ Kutirko and Dutsen Kura Hausa in Limawa, Sauke Ka Huta in Tudun Wada South; Asibiti Mata in Limawa A, and Abdulsalam Quarters in Sabon Gari Ward.
The Executive Director of the Chanchaga Project Delivery Unit, Architect Jamilu Tofa, emphasized the need for strict implementation of approved business plans.
He urged facility managers to convene committee meetings before making expenditures, review their plans to reflect revised funding, and ensure quarterly monitoring and evaluation for effective project delivery.
In a goodwill message, Alhaji Muhammad Usman commended the chairman for his continued support to the health sector. He recalled that during Dr. Jibril’’s tenure as Commissioner for Health, 11 motorcycles were donated to aid their work.
He also appreciated the renovation of the NIP office and appealed for similar intervention in renovating the Director of PHC office.
The Chairman-in-Charge Forum, Alhaji Aminu A. Shehu, expressed appreciation for the motivation given to Officers-in-Charge (OICs), urging them to strictly follow and implement their business plans.
In his remarks, Executive Chairman Dr. Mustapha Mohammed Jibril commended health workers for their dedication.
He explained that the BHCPF programme was initiated during his tenure as Commissioner for Health, beginning with Niger, Osun, and Abia States before its expansion nationwide.
Dr. Jibril also highlighted Niger State’s pioneering role in establishing Ward Health Development Committees and encouraged health workers to actively participate in the Primary Health Care competition with the aim of securing first place.
He concluded by calling for prayers and support for his administration and that of the state governor, Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago.
