Danbayo Foundation Launches Education Support for 83,000 Gombe Pupils

By Abubakar Rabilu, Gombe

Danbayo’s Foundation has launched an education support programme targeting about 83,000 pupils and 415 teachers across 83 schools in Gombe State, as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions in public schools.

The initiative was unveiled on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Alabura S. Kudin Model Nursery, Primary and Junior Secondary School, Kumbiya-Kumbiya, Gombe, where the foundation presented various educational materials to the school.

The materials included exercise books, class registers, lesson plan books, markers, rulers, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and dusters.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Ambassador Yusuf Musa Danbayo, said the initiative was inspired by the humanitarian values and legacy of his late father, stressing that education remained a major investment in the future of society.

He said the foundation’s humanitarian activities began in 2004 with environmental protection and tree-planting exercises before expanding into educational assistance for children from less-privileged backgrounds in 2005.

According to him, the foundation had supported children with school enrolment, uniforms, exercise books and assistance with Parent-Teacher Association requirements.

Danbayo said the current intervention was designed to complement government efforts in the education sector and encourage pupils to remain in school and pursue their education despite economic challenges.

He urged parents to give greater attention to their children’s education, while calling on teachers to continue to play their role in developing the academic and moral character of pupils.

He also encouraged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, hardworking and focused, assuring them that their present circumstances should not determine their future.

The Education Secretary, Abubakar A. Baba, commended the foundation for supporting schools and complementing government efforts to improve basic education in Gombe State.

Baba said interventions from individuals, foundations and other organisations could help schools address some of their immediate needs, particularly the provision of teaching and learning materials.

He urged the pupils to make good use of the materials and remain committed to their studies.

The representative of the Commissioner for Education also commended Danbayo’s Foundation for the initiative, describing collaboration between government and non-state actors as important to strengthening the education sector.

He called on philanthropists, corporate organisations, foundations and other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture and support schools, particularly children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The principal of Alabura S. Kudin Model School, who expressed appreciation to the foundation, said the intervention would provide useful support to both teachers and pupils.

He said the donation would contribute to creating a more conducive learning environment and encouraged the foundation to sustain the programme.

The principal also appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to emulate Danbayo’s Foundation by supporting schools and contributing to the development of education in the state.

Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed appreciation to the foundation, saying the materials would help them in their classroom activities and reduce some of the difficulties associated with accessing basic learning materials.

They called on other foundations, associations and individuals to support schools and pupils, especially those from less-privileged backgrounds.

Danbayo further called for collective efforts to promote education, healthcare, hygiene, environmental protection, youth empowerment and community development.

He said sustainable development could only be achieved through cooperation among government, communities, traditional institutions, development partners, philanthropists and other stakeholders.

The event was attended by education officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, teachers, pupils and other stakeholders.

The foundation, whose motto is “Empowering Minds, Protecting Lives, Serving Humanity and Building a Sustainable Future,” said its activities extend beyond education to humanitarian services, environmental protection health, hygiene and community development.

Danbayo said the latest initiative represented another step towards preserving his late father’s legacy of service and inspiring more people to contribute to the development of society.
