Early morning inferno destroyed goods estimated at about over N200millions at the Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure ultra modern Market in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State on Thursday, 8th January 2026.
An eyewitness informed our Correspondent that the fire began at about 7.30 am, adding that though the swift intervention of both the Niger State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service personnel brought the inferno under control.
It was further gathered that the fire was said to have been caused by overheating from a solar panel mounted on the shops roof tops in the market
Faruq said,” Items in the shop include (7,000) cartons of biscuits, and 12,000 crates of soft drinks, part of which was destroyed by the fire.”
He appealed to the Niger State Government to come to their aid in order as to reduce the pain of their loss.
Earlier, the Director General of the Niger State Urban Development Board (NUDB), Abdulrahman Mohammad Chata, expressed concern over the congestion in the market and urged traders to strictly adhere to the laid-down rules and regulations.
